Dowra

The tiny village of Dowra is situated close to the border of Counties Leitrim and Cavan, overlooking beautiful Lough Allen, which is one of the largest and most picturesque lakes in the country. Dowra is the first village on the River Shannon in the direction of Limerick with the Shannon Pot, the source of the river located only 9 miles from Dowra.

The Lough Allen Adventure Centre is a popular attraction in the area along with some excellent fishing spots. Outdoor activities such as swimming, canoeing and yachting attract visitors from the surrounding counties to this lcoation throughout the year. The way-marked walking route "The Cavan Way" and "The Leitrim Way" also meet in Dowra making it a hub for walking enthusiasts.
