Ballintober

Ballintober is located 6 kilometers from the town of Castlerea and contains the preserved remains of a stone castle named Ballintober Castle which was first mentioned in writing in 1311. The was built by the O’Connor clan of Connacht and was high seat after the Anglo-Norman invasion until early in the 18th century.
