Castlerea

Castlerea is situated in forested countryside on the River Suck and the River Francis, both of which are tributaries of the River Shannon. Castlerea is 30km from Roscommon Town and Boyle and is served by the Dublin Westport railway line.

It was the birthplace of Sir William Wilde, father of the celebrated dramatist, writer and wit, Oscar Wilde. A major attraction is the area is Clonalis House, the ancestral home of the O' Connor clan, the family of that spawned 11 high kings of Ireland and 24 kings to Connacht.
