Roosky

Rooskey is a beautiful vilage near the Leitrim Roscommon border and just 13kms north-west of Longford town. It is an prominent mooring point on the River Shannon and a popular stopping point for cruisers. There are many nice walks in the area, such as the river walk to Roosky Lock.

Roosky is the perfect base for exploring the North West of Ireland as it is halfway between Dublin and County Donegal. Activities in the Roosky area are golf, horse riding, boating and angling.

History The navigation channel at Roosky was built in the 1760's and the current lock was built in the 1840's, along with the weir and road bridge. The original opening span of the bridge was replaced in recent years by a lifting section.
