Strokestown

Strokestown in north of county Roscommon is an estate town, and one of only a few planned towns in the county. It is known for having one of the widest main streets in Ireland and a large 18th century mansion, Strokestown Park House.

Strokestown Park House features the longest herbaceous border in Britain and Ireland and a Famine Museum commemorating the Great Famine of 1845 and its effect on the town.

Close to the town is Sliabh Ban or White Mountain which takes its name pale rocks that form the mountain such as sandstone and conglomerates rather than the grey limestone of the surrounding plains. The mountain offers is a popular forest walk of c.20km ranging from 150m to 258m elevation, along with panoramic viewing points.
